ProtoArt Beautify
A local AI image enhancer and upscaler for Macs, based on the Finegrain Image Enhancer. Everything runs on your Mac: no account, no cloud, no telemetry.

What it does
- Enhance & upscale: AI detail with resemblance, creativity and steps, plus presets from INSTANT and TURBO to QUALITY and CREATIVE
- Face Fix: restores faces after the enhance with RestoreFormer, or CodeFormer with a Fidelity knob (CodeFormer is non-commercial). Each model downloads once, the first time you use it
- Filters: Bleach Bypass, Dark Contrasts, Detail Extractor and Film Grain in Color Efex style. Turn each on with a click and drag them into any order
- Adjust: Camera Raw-style Light and Color sliders, applied before or after the AI
- Compare: single, split and side-by-side views, with smooth mouse-wheel zoom toward the pointer up to 400% of actual pixels
- Save: PNG, JPEG or TIFF, as a copy or overwriting the original, with batch processing
Requirements
- macOS 13 Ventura or newer
- Apple Silicon (M1 or newer): 8 GB memory works
- Intel Macs: runs on the CPU, much slower (INSTANT ~2 min, TURBO 15–30+ min)
- About 6 GB free disk space for models
Install
- Open the DMG, drag the app onto Applications
- First launch: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (test builds aren't notarised)
- Check a download:

Models & privacy
- No model weights are bundled. On first launch the app downloads them from Hugging Face. Each one is pinned to an exact version and checked against a SHA-256 hash. Each model keeps its own licence, and 4x-UltraSharp and CodeFormer are non-commercial. See the notices.
- Your images never leave your Mac. See PRIVACY.md and SECURITY.md.
